Fifty boxcoolers for five record-setters
Blokland Cooling contributed to a series of five self-unloading vessels built by CSSC Chengxi Shipyard Co., Ltd for Rio Tinto’s Simandou iron ore project in Guinea.
The first vessel, Wontanara, has already earned the nickname ‘the king of self-unloading ships’. It is the first in a series of five 215-metre self-loaders described as the world’s largest shallow-water transhipment self-unloaders by deadweight, the fastest self-unloaders of their kind in terms of discharge speed, and the first in their tonnage class able to operate in both directions.
Ten boxcoolers are already on board Wontanara, together with a Cathelco ICAF system. And it doesn’t stop there: another forty will follow for the next four vessels.
